The Birth of Balliver....
One day while I was working for a telecommunications firm in Rancho Cordova, California, I was in a four-hour-long meeting from heck that quite possibly could have been the most boring experience in my entire life. All the participants in this meeting were handed an obscenely thick packet of material, each bound together with a great big, thick rubber-band. As soon as the rubber-bands came off the packets, they were thrown in a big pile in the center of the table, right in front of where I sat.
After a while the pile became too tempting; as the speaker droned on about billing this and charging that, I gathered up all the rubber bands and started twisting them into a small ball. I had a play-thing to keep my mind from atrophying!
When I went back to my cubicle, I quickly added all the rubber-bands I had. Then I went to the supply-room and added an entire box of rubber-bands. When I went home, I added all the rubber-bands from the morning newspaper. It became an obsession! In no time Balliver became about five inches across.
One day Balliver disappeared from my cubicle. Yeah, I was a little worried, but I knew someone in that office of pranksters was playing a little joke on me. A day went by; a couple days went by. Then when I came in one morning, there was Balliver sitting on my desk with a little note underneath him. It started, "Dear Dad," and it went on to describe how one of my co-workers had taken Balliver with her and her two nephews to Disneyland! He had a great time, the note said, and there were pictures to prove it!
Thus began Balliver's travel adventures!
Now whenever I go on a trip, I take Balliver with me. Whenever my sister, Lisa, goes on a trip, she takes Balliver with her. I also have friends and other family members who take Balliver with them on their trips.
With all the different travelling companions, Balliver has gone to quite a few places -- more places than I've ever been to! He's been to over a dozen different nations on five continents, and he's not done travelling yet!
