Na vele omzwervingen door Murchison Falls, Kibale Forest en Queen Elisabeth National Parks, ben ik nu een dagje te gast bij een nederlands koppel die voor twee jaar naar Kabale zijn uitgezonden door een duitse organisatie. Heerlijk in een bed geslapen, brood gegeten, en nu staat de nieuwste CD van Coldplay op. Even een dagje geen flamingo's, wardhogs, chimps (heel veel chimps gezien), buffalo's, olifanten, giraffes, Ugandan Cobs, vleermuizen die om je hoofd circelen, foresthogst (donkerder en zwaarder behaard dan de standaard Pumba), hippo's om de tent (een slapeloze nacht, ik hoorde ze overal om me heen schreeuwen en grazen, ik stond doodsangsten uit), en als topper van elke safariende tourist: leeuwen. Op een meter of vijf afstand, twee mannetjes en vijf vrouwtjes, als volleerde Mieux-Mieux's in het gras relaxen.
Nu dus even op bezoek, en dan twee dagen op een eilandje gaan
'uitrusten' in voorbereiding op de dingen die vrijdag gaan komen: onder
begeleiding van 25 zwaar bewapende mannen (inclusief granaatwerpers,
bazooka's, mitrailleurs, en een boel extra ammunutie), het 'veilige'
Mugahinga park in om op bezoek te gaan bij de gorilla's. Verslag volgt!

Police Warn
Kampala -
Police have announced restrictions to stop crime during the new year
festivities. The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Edward Katumba
Wamala, warned the public against excessive jubilation, saying it could
have a negative impact. In a statement issued on Thursday, Police
cautioned the public against display of fireworks. Katumba also warned
against burning tyrres on the road (het lokale gebruik met nieuwjaar
hier), saying it is criminal and prohibited.
Masaka couple arrested over daughter's murder
The
Police in Masaka on Wednesday arrested a man and his wife in the
connection with the brutal murder of their 10-year-old daughter, whose
body was recovered in a nearby bush after a week. Eddie Ssejjoba writes
that the suspects include the girl's father, Godfrey Miiro of Kisekka
village, Bukoto county and his wife, Florence Nansamba, a step-mother,
suspecting them to have had a hand in the murder of Viola Namyalo.The
Masaka District Police Commander, Steven Kasiima, siad the girl's body
was recorvered in a bush a week after she mysteriously disapeared.
It
had been cut several times and the tongue and private parts removed. A
panga used in the murder was also recovered from the scene.
The
Police also arrested a neighbour, Charles Kasana, who was suspected to
have bribed the father with shim to sell him the girls' parts. Kasana
reportedly took the parts to a witchdoctor to heal his mad brother.
Kasima
said the Police was also hunting for the witchdoctor, Yoana Ssentuzi,
of Kooki, who alledgedly demanded for human body parts.
Jinja man drinks self into coma
A
Man recently drank himself into a coma after draining several bottles
of beer near Source Café in Jinja. Musoke began drinking ESB beer at
9.00am and by 2.00pm he was carried out of the bar by sympathisers and
laid out on the veranda.
Some people had started pouring water on
him but were stopped by a bystander who advised that it was dangerous
and could make matters worse.
